This chapter will show the basic lying and sitting postures, and variations for people with special needs.  Lying Postures The most effective lying posture for all relaxation techniques is thousands of years old. 'Savasana', the yoga corpse posture, remains the classic relaxation position (see Table 4).

It is usually futile to attempt the forms of relaxation described in this book with people who are so agitated they find it difficult to stay still. In a class they may need to wriggle or wander in and out, and therefore will be disruptive to others.
